Service in NA

Goodwill, of course, is the beginning of all spiritual growth. It leads to affection and love in all our actions. Therefore, service is also a Power greater than we, and has significant meaning for all.

Why do it?

Serving is a privilege enjoyed by thousands of recovering addicts. Here's some of the top reasons we do it:

Service makes us feel good. (more)

Service helps us grow. (more)

Service fills our lives with people who are active in their recovery.  

We can only keep what we have by giving it away.  We begin to understand that the principle of self-support is at the very heart of our program… Discovering this truth lends real meaning to our belief that “we keep what we have only by giving it away.” As we learn to live this program, we find that gratitude is an action, and we put our gratitude into action by offering help and support to our fellow members through service. - Self-Support: Principle and Practice

What can I do?

 We serve society by being an example of recovery and living by spiritual principles. We can also serve other addicts simply by carrying the message of recovery and hope. There is yet another type of service which involves a committment to a service body, whether it is a homegroup, an area or regional service committee, or a subcommittee. Anywhere that information is deleted will be noted, generally describing what was removed.  Documents will be moved to the heading Regional Service Committee Documents after these changes have been made.
